Description

The dramatic sea cliffs along the Tasman Peninsula are among the highest and most spectacular in Australia. The climate and seas of southern ocean have created amazing rock formations along this coast and home to a wide range of wildlife. There are also many sheltered coves and bays, and the opportunity to view Port Arthur historic site from the water.

There is no better way of fully appreciating its spectacular glory than from a sea level perspective in a kayak!

About the area

Tasman National Park is a place of fantastic landforms and incredible beauty.

It is home to a wide range of wildlife and plants and the waters just off the bay contain forests of Giant kelp, one of the fastest growing organisms on Earth.

Although the area is named after Dutch explorer Abel Tasman in 1642, the aboriginal inhabitants of this area preceding European arrival were the Pydairrerme aboriginal people.

By 1833 Port Arthur had been established by the British as a penal settlement and has recently been listed as part of the Australian Convict World Heritage Sites. By 1877 all convict-related sites had ceased operating, with Port Arthur being the last to close its doors. By the turn of the twentieth century, Port Arthur had reopened, this time to curious tourists.
