Freycinet Expedition - 4 day Print E-mail

Kayak, Walk & Aqua Taxi

Escape the everyday and discover a place where time is measured by the turning of the tides...

Paddle into a world of pristine beaches, pink granite mountains and waters so clear you feel you can touch the marine life below.

Over 4 days, immerse yourself in the essence of the Freycinet Peninsula on a relaxed guided sea kayaking and walking adventure into the heart of the national park. Discover the feeling of freedom and rejuvenate in the fresh sea air.

The ‘sea level’ experience offered by a sea kayak provides a truly unique perspective of this spectacular coastal wilderness. With the advantage of a one-way Aqua Taxi trip, we have more time to explore the Peninsula, with plenty of time for walking, swimming and relaxing.

Our guides love this beautiful part of the world and look forward to sharing stories of its nature and culture to enhance your adventure. With every trip we ensure that safety is a priority; that everyone has a relaxed time in an enjoyable atmosphere and the beautiful environment is respected.

Our trips are about good times, not hard work

Suggested Itinerary:

*This itinerary is a guide only and maybe subject to change*

This is a true escape! Forget the structure of your everyday life - flexibility is the key to experiencing the true nature of Freycinet and the sense of freedom that accompanies a sea kayaking journey.

In true expedition style, we carry all of our equipment and food in our kayaks – with our ultimate destination governed by nature’s forces.

We will collect you from your accommodation in Hobart and transfer to Coles Bay, a small coastal town bordering Freycinet National Park on Tasmania’s east coast. This is the perfect location to pack our sea kayaks and learn the safety and paddling skills that will become second nature in the days to follow. As we set off in our kayaks along the Hazards Range, the park’s spectacular scenery will have you hooked within moments of departure.

Over the four days we take you on a journey to the southern reaches of the Peninsula and magnificent Schouten Island (weather permitting). We have plenty of opportunity to explore the pink granite coastline punctuated by the pristine white sand beaches. The coastal wilderness shows little evidence of the whaling, mining and grazing that was once undertaken here.

Each night we set up camp in a beachside location and enjoy fresh meals prepared by your guides in a unique wilderness setting, such as
- pan seared Tasmanian salmon with lemon myrtle risotto,
- braised lamb shanks with rich gravy, mash and seasonal vegetables
- accompanied by a crisp sauvignon blanc or delicate pinot noir.

We strongly believe that great food is an essential part of your experience and pride ourselves on preparing meals of fresh Tasmanian produce. Your day is completed with an evening relaxing under the stars in the company of new friends.

There are many coastal walks to enjoy, including the opportunity to walk to the world famous Wineglass Bay, voted one of the top ten beaches in the world by Outside Magazine (USA). If you’re feeling more adventurous and conditions allow, the hikes up Mt. Freycinet (Freycinet Peninsula) or Bear Hill (Schouten Island) provide rewarding spectacular views.

Rejuvenate with every breath in the temperate maritime climate of the Freycinet Peninsula. Refresh in the clear waters, bask in the sunshine and enjoy the feel of the sea breeze.

On day 4, we return to Coles Bay by early afternoon by Aqua Taxi*. This concludes your Freycinet Adventure. We bid you a peaceful journey home rejuvenated and with memories you will treasure for years.

Camp

All equipment is provided for our simple beachside camps – including compact 2-person tents, inflatable mattresses and sleeping bags. There is a toilet available at each camp, but no shower facilities.

We can arrange a shower for you on returning to Coles Bay at the conclusion of the tour.

Meals

All meals are fully catered from lunch on day one to lunch on the day 4 of your adventure. There are no campfires permitted in the National Park so we use fuel stoves to prepare our meals.

We are happy to cater for most dietary requirements and preferences.

Friends

Relax in the company of a small group, easy going, experienced guides and companions that share your spirit of adventure. Group sizes are limited to 10 guests (minimum 4).

Weather

As we operate in the outdoors, adverse weather conditions, in particular wind and sea breeze may affect some adventures. Trips may experience day/s where paddling is not possible, on these days, we explore the coastal wilderness by foot.

Fitness

Whether exploring by foot or kayak, all activities can be enjoyed by anyone in good general fitness with a sense of adventure. Some previous paddling experience is preferable, but not essential.

We aim to paddle for 3-4 hours each day, allowing plenty of time to explore the coast on foot or simply relax around camp.
