Freycinet Adventures is a multi-award winning ecotourism business delivering sea kayaking and adventure experiences in the Freycinet National Park on Tasmania's east coast.

Positions available:

Tour guides:

  • Who have a passion for providing outstanding customer service - both on tour and behind the scenes.
  • Who are able to engage with clients and enrich their experience by providing interpretation of the local environment. Freycinet Adventures are seeking motivated professional guides for casual positions from September 2007 onwards to join our award-winning, experienced team.

We are predominantly seeking trip leaders for our:

  • Freycinet Paddle – half day sea kayaking tour (Morning and Twilight)
  • Occasional 4-day sea kayaking expedition.
  • There are some positions available for assistant guides in these activities.
  • We are seeking guides who can begin September / October, and others that are available to start by December for our peak summer period.

The position of tour guide holds considerable responsibility. Tour leaders are not only responsible for maintaining a high level of safety standards but also ensuring that your client's trip to be a lasting memorable experience. As an ambassador for Freycinet Adventures and Tasmania as a whole, your personal manner, knowledge of the area and leadership ability will be on display every tour (both on and off tour) and your actions will be observed and remembered.

We offer:

  • Casual employment, with a ‘fulltime workload’ available on a regular roster from October 2007 to May 2008 and onwards. Typical roster is 5 days on, 2 days off – but may be negotiated.
  • Additional operational / administration work, paid on an hourly basis.
  • Incentives / bonuses
  • In-house training and support from a family-owned and operated company with 10 years operating experience.
  • Some share-accommodation is available in Coles Bay, on a first-in basis

Sea kayaking Guides

Essential skills / qualifications include:

  • Valid First Aid certificate (min. Senior First Aid)
  • Sea kayaking experience and/or recognised qualification (e.g. Outdoor Rec Cert III / Cert IV)
  • Knowledge of the Freycinet National Park and Tasmanian environment OR ability to learn.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to relate to clients and provide interpretation
  • Knowledge of, and ability to work to OHS standards;
  • High standard of fitness, strength and presentation.

Guides Pay / Renumeration
Trip Leaders will be paid on either a per tour / hourly basis - varying with type and length of tour and length of employment with Freycinet Adventures. For example indicative Trip Leader rates for 2007-08 - Freycinet Paddle $80 per trip (typically 2 per day); 4 day tour (inc prep day) $800.


Abseiling Guides

To provide a fulltime workload, our preference is for guides that can perform the role of both Abseil and assistant Kayak guides. Essential skills / qualifications include:

  • Valid First Aid certificate (min. Senior First Aid)
  • Abseiling and Rocklimbing experience and recognized qualification.
  • Sea kayaking experience and/or recognised qualification (e.g. Outdoor Rec Cert III / Cert IV)
  • Knowledge of the Freycinet National Park and Tasmanian environment OR ability to learn.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to relate to clients and provide interpretation
  • Knowledge of, and ability to work to OHS standards;
  • High standard of fitness, strength and presentation.

Water Taxi Skippers

We are looking for a register of casual Skippers (Coxswain) to assist with our new Aqua Taxi service on the Freycinet Peninsula.

Employment:       Casual, paid on a per hour basis (starting from $20 per hour).
Roster:               Subject to demand, up to 2 – 3 days per week.

Our perfect skipper will have:

  • Comprehensive knowledge and ability, showing compliance with Health and Safety issues and MaST operating guidelines;
  • High standard of fitness and physical strength;
  • Knowledge of the Freycinet area;
  • Excellent basic administration skills;
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
